Join Jad for a night of electrifying music and fascinating conversation on June 18th at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Jad will present three musical acts during a live taping for an upcoming short podcast. Glenn Kotche, Buke and Gass, and a surprise special guest will all perform live. Tickets are on sale now, and you get $5 off with the code "radiolab."
Each act has a distinct, one-of-a-kind sound, but all three share a spirit of exploration and musical adventure. The evening will showcase riveting live performances, and delve into the process each artist engages when creating these musical experiences.
The Chicago-based percussionist and composer Glenn Kotche has been heralded as one of the most exciting, creative and promising composers and performers in modern music. His eclectic works have focused on the creative use of rhythm and space, navigating the territory between the academic and the primal, the consonant and the dissonant. Kotche has received international attention for his "unfailing taste, technique and discipline" (Chicago Tribune), and in addition to his work as a solo percussionist, Kotche is member of the ground-breaking American rock band Wilco.
Buke & Gass is an experimental indie rock duo from Brooklyn, NY, that made its recording debut in 2009. Founded in 2008, the band is comprised of multi-instrumentalists Aron Sanchez and Arone Dyer, the latter formerly a member of the band Proton Proton. The band's name is derived from two experimental instruments created by the bandmembers: the buke, played by Dyer, is something of an electrified six-string ukulele while the gass, played by Sanchez, is something of a cross between a guitar and bass (guitar-bass, g-ass, gass -- get it?).
And Jad will also be talking with a surprise special guest! Join us to find out who it is, and to see the exceptional Glenn Kotche and Buke & Gass perform live.
