NASA's rover Curiosity is scheduled to touch down on Mars at 1:30am EDT on Monday, 8/6 (the wee hours!). Join a gang of enthusiastic Radiolab producers and space-loving special guests, who are all staying up late Sunday night (and into Monday morning) to track the rover's progress.
We'll be hosting a Google Hangout On Air (our first ever!), which you can watch on our brand-new Google+ page, our YouTube channel, or right here on radiolab.org. We're planning to kick things off at 11:30pm EDT on Sunday, and continue until we hear word from NASA on the rover's official arrival.
The online festivities will include visits from:
- Mary Roach (author of Packing for Mars)
- Astrophysicist and writer Janna Levin (author of A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines)
- Andrew Kessler, author of Martian Summer
- The Washington Post's Marc Kaufman, author of Mars Landing 2012: Inside NASA's Curiosity Mission
- A collection of reporters and scientists who'll buzz in throughout the night to fill us in on different aspects of the mission.
We'll also fire up a live chat here on the blog, so you can chime in and say hi throughout the evening.
We'll add more details as we get closer to Sunday night, but in the meantime, let the countdown begin!
